The story follows Lyra Belacqua (Dakota Blue Richards), a young girl who lives in Oxford University with her uncle, Lord Asriel (Daniel Craig). Lyra discovers a mysterious substance called Dust, which is a source of power and control. She also meets a talking armored bear, Iorek Byrnison (voiced by Mikael Persbrandt), and a witch, Serafina Pekkala (Eva Green).
