The story takes place a year after the events of the third film. Blackbeard (Ian McShane), the notorious pirate captain, is on a quest to find the Fountain of Youth, a mythical spring that is said to grant eternal life. Blackbeard's quest is also motivated by a desire for revenge against the Spanish, who he believes wronged him in the past.
