Jonas gelang eine Aufgabe besonders gut: ein kurzer Brief an einen Austauschschüler. Er schrieb von seiner Stadt, von den Herbstblättern und vom Bäcker um die Ecke, dessen Brötchen so warm waren, dass man die Finger daran wärmen konnte. Er schrieb von der Schule, vom Matheunterricht, aber auch von den Pausen, in denen man sich Geschichten erzählte. Als er fertig war, las er den Brief noch einmal laut vor — leise, für sich — und merkte, dass die Wörter, die vorher fremd gewesen waren, jetzt wie kleine Freunde klangen.
