The movie takes place in the Mariana Trench, the deepest point in the ocean, where a team of scientists, led by Dr. Prema Mutiso (LL Cool J), are conducting research on a group of genetically enhanced super-intelligent mako sharks. The experiment goes awry when one of the sharks, a massive and aggressive creature named U-157, escapes and begins to wreak havoc on the research facility.
