Sindhu Tolani Vodeo was born into a Gujarati family in Mumbai. She completed her education at St. Anne's High School and graduated from K.P.B. Hinduja College of Commerce. Sindhu's entry into the television industry began with a minor role in the serial "Kuchh Jhokhe Kuchh Pal" (2002). Her breakthrough performance came with the serial "Kehna Hai" (2003), where she played the lead role of Sanjana.
